also vaguely related - did you hear simon day on chain reaction on radio 4? i've always been fond of him although he's never quite made it to the same level of success as some of his peers. i'd had a little to drink when i listened so that probably helped but i laughed out loud a couple of times whilst i was listening and nearly choked on my dinner at one point.

i didn't catch that, but i did catch a bit of this in the car the other week, and it was laugh out loud funny. normally most things in the radio 4 comedy slot are anti-comedy, but this was good. he also had a part in this , which was also quite good, and is the only radio 4 programme i've ever sat in the lounge and played for mrs fraud on the iplayer thing.

"good" and "quite good." get me, i'm like kenneth tynan.

They repeated the Chain Reaction episode on 4 Extra or whatever it's called so it's available again for the next 4 days http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b012r9b1

Yeah, I listened to and enjoyed Sarah Millican's Support Group and the Simon Day show. The last episode of Simon Day where he was on as him self was interesting - I wondered at the time whether the extracts he was reading were from an actual autobiography or not. Listening to Chain Reaction it became clearer that they were. I hope the book's a success - it sounds like he's led quite an eventful life and been through a lot.

Interestingly enough, Vic & Bob and Simon Day were amongst the comedians who appeared on " Jennifer Saunders: Laughing at the 90s " on Monday. Did you watch it? It was a bit of an oddity - 2-hour-long prog looking at British comedy in the 90s, taking in Vic & Bob, French & Saunders, Absolutely Fabulous, Bottom, Newman & Baddiel, The Fast Show, Father Ted, League of Gentlemen, The Day Today and Alan Partridge. It was nice to see some of the clips and hear what some of the talking heads had to say but it did seem that the programme was probably meant to be 4 half-hour episodes, and the argument the script tried to make about why the comedy did this or that in the 90s was pretty weak and made sweeping generalisations and assumptions. Perhaps I'm biased as I never really liked Absolutely Fabulous but I couldn't help feeling that the prog was some sort of thinly veiled attempt to boost interest in Absolutely Fabulous DVDs.

i saw it and avoided it. in the same vein as the one with ronnie corbett in talking to miranda hart. i did watch the new series of shooting stars though, which was marvellous. i'm getting me some tights.

It was good, wasn't it? I watched it with pretty low expectations but laughed aloud. They seem somehow re-invigorated. I hope it lasts throughout the run.

Back to Chain Reaction - John Cooper Clarke interviewed Kevin Eldon and it's well worth a listen here .

Didn't realise that the whole of Big Night Out is now on Youtube, along with a bunch of other shows & series.
