Probably as well I don't have Sky. From the sounds of it, if I had Sky Atlantic I'd be watching approx 6 hours more telly per week, If not more, and I already spend too much time doing that.

They're trailing it to a mental extent now. As you say, I'm increasingly looking at the clips and thinking "that's all I'm gonna end up watching." What's annoying is that it doesn't exist on the Sky planner yet, so I can't actually see what's on there yet. I know they're showing Treme, which based on the first episode, is a crushing disappointment.

I had a look at a metacritic or some such best programs of 2010 from the states, with a view to downloading them all. So far I've watched Treme (disappointment), Justified (Timothy Olaphant) (OK-ish) and Community (Chevy Chase) (well, it's got Chevy Chase in) That said, Fletch was on when I got up this morning, and I found myself being drawn into it.....

I presume it's taking over from one of the existing channels - 108? What's that? Sky 3?

At first glance of the Radio Times it looked like they were showing Boardwalk Empire every night, but it looks like the first ep is on Tuesday (9-10.30) then second Wednesday (9-10.10). Nice to know that Sky are going to ruinate all the HBO stuff with ads.

It's weird cos they aren't really showing that many of their muched hyped new series in the first week. Boardwalk Empire, then also on launch night Blue Bloods. Then series seven of Entourage starts Thursday. Apart from that it's repeats of stuff like Six Feet Under, 24, Prison Break, ER etc. I guess more will follow and they might have some big launches Saturday/Sunday/Monday.

Maybe Treme needs a few episodes to get into. I know I was a few episodes into the Wire before I got into it - and Generation Kill was quite different.

I don't really understand why you pay for Sky+ then download series which are shown sooner or later on Sky or on Freeview or even terrestrial. You're kind of ripping yourself off - paying for something which you then don't use to its full as you've already downloaded. Justified has been on Fiver or Five USA or maybe even Five. I realise it must be a frustrating knowing these shows are out there and wanting to watch the most up to date seasons but you'll get them eventually in the package you pay for.

On Thursday night on More 4 they're starting to show The Big C. I've heard a little about this - starring Laura Linney as a woman who discovers that she has cancer and decides to stop playing by the rules. It's actually meant to be a comedy (although it's probably more comedy/drama) - sounds a bit of a tough sell but remember how unappetising Breaking Bad sounded until you actually watched it. Plus it's only half an hour so not the big time commitment some of these things are.

Do you watch Nurse Jackie? It's a bit of an odd one but I really enjoy it. A comedy set around a hospital, but fortunately nothing like Scrubs. I guess it's more of a comedy/drama too. There's a dippy assistant nurse/trainee who's particularly entertaining - the actress deserves some sort of award. So far I haven't found anyone else who watches it.

The Killing is meant to be good. It's a Danish police drama following the hunt for the killer of a 19-year-old girl. Each of the 20 episodes details a day in the hunt. BBC4 are showing it in double episodes - the whole thing is on iplayer until March, I think. I'm in two-minds about whether to try to watch it or not - I'm struggling to keep on top of TV as it is, and am losing precious comic-reading time every weekend.

If you haven't watched it already, The Big C's pretty good. It's not a laugh a minute, but it has made me laugh and smile. I can imagine it might get a bit mawkish but so far they've managed to tread the line without overstepping it - as far as I'm concerned.

I've actually quite enjoyed the 10 O'Clock Show too, more than I was expecting. It's not perfect but I found myself laughing out loud a couple of times last night.

Turns out I can watch Sky Atlantic stuff online now with Sky Player, courtesy of my Step Dad - at least the stuff that's available On Demand.

I'm up to date on Boardwalk Empire. Enjoyed it a lot - probably helped by seeing the first few episodes condensed over a couple of weeks.

It's really nice to see Steve Buscemi in a central role - can't think of the last time he was the lead in something major.

Also good to see Omar/Michael K Williams as Chalky White.

I downloaded about the first six on iplayer but haven't watched any of it - and now it feels like an insurmountable chunk of time. I may try to catch up though. If I like the first one or two then it shouldn't be too tricky.

Did you watch any more of Treme? I don't think the first episode did much but introduce you to the main characters - I've persevered and am quite enjoying it now. It's quite sprawling but I think enough is happening to hold my interest. I don't know where it's going next (although I have at least one idea) but that's okay.

I've been catching up on it over the last week or two. I've watched about 10 episodes now and it's good (not faultless but very good) but I've kind of overdosed so I now feel a bit like Nana was murdered where I live and the investigation is going on around me. It's a bit like when you play too much of a video game and your brain keeps thinking about it when your doing other stuff - you know, trying to figure out how to get around some obstacle in the game whilst your meant to be getting some work done.

I don't know if that partly cos of the way they do the show - It's quite straight and matter-of-fact and subtle in it's approach unlike your CSI etcs (not that there's anything wrong with those but it's a very different style of crime show).

I also find that I still have to have the TV on at the same volume even though I'm reading what everyone's saying in the subtitles. I've tried turning it down but have found that I hate feeling like I can't hear them properly.

Don't give away anything that happens as I probably won't finish watching it before half-way through April.

No same here - we're on about episode 12 I think. Agree with you about the volume thing too!
