I watched the first episode of Friday Night Lights on Sky Atlantic last week. Despite having no interest in sport since Lyall Watson was replaced by Brian Blessed for the commentary on Channel 4's Sumo wrestling coverage I thought I'd give this a go as I thought I'd heard somewhere that it was good.

It's about a small-town High School (American) Football team and the stuff surrounding it. There are some familiar faces in the cast but nobody I could name. When I started watching it I was kind of disinterested and wondering if I'd make it to the end of the episode, but I got hooked in without realizing and thought it was a really involving opening episode.

You can get episodes 1 & 2 off Sky Go if you're interested.

Did you watch Luck on Sky Atlantic? I heard mixed things about the first episode although this week's is meant to be a bit better.

Given that it's created by David Milch I would hope that it'll be good, just hope that no interest or knowledge of horse-racing won't impair the enjoyment.

Not yet. I'd read a review though that said the first episode (or maybe ...sodes) are uninvolving and then it gets you later on, like cigarettes or ladies.

I haven't seen Friday Night Lights, or even heard of it. I'll try and look out for it. Have you been watching Homeland? First one was ok I thought. But it's no The Wire.

Yeah, watched first Homeland. Promising - I'm curious how long they can sustain any ambiguity over whether he's been turned or not.

I don't think The Wire was The Wire after only one episode but know what you mean.

Incidentally Episode 2 of Friday Night Lights is repeated Sunday, then the next one is on Tuesday.

I watched the first episode of Luck not expecting to understand what was going on - and i'd heard it was disjointed so I wasn't really anticipating getting into it just on that episode.

It turned out not to be as impenetrable as I'd been led to believe and I quite enjoyed it. Thought it was a promising start.

So I watched the second episode thinking I would be okay, having managed the first, but it turned out that I was wrong. There are two characters who I only understand about every third word of what they're saying - Nick Nolte and the peruvian horse guy. Some of what was going on just baffled me. Ho-hum.
I'll try again with episode 3 and see where that leaves me.

If I had Sky proper I'd be watching Adventure Time on Cartoon Network.

Turns out I can watch Sky live on Sky.com - I just have to use Internet explorer as it doesn't like Chrome (something to do with Silverlight that I can't make work).

Anyway, I've been watching Adventure Time. It's now my new favourite thing and I want to live in it.

Yep, we like Adventure Time in this house. My favourite though, usually on about the same time is Regular Show. It's fantastic. Check it out.

I saw that the second episode of Mad Men on Sky Atlantic got about 98000 viewers. Is anyone watching it who isn't a TV critic?

I've seen a couple of episodes of Regular Show as it was just after/before Adventure Time. Will try to watch more based on your recommendation.

Re Madmen - it's disappointing but not surprising to hear about the low figures. But I do know a couple of other people who watch it. Unfortunately to follow it you have to have followed it through its torturous scheduling late nights on BBC2 for however many seasons then jumped to Sky. Or DVD or download. That's not going to add up to a lot of English viewers.

as of this ...
