I presume everyone's heard that the title of the new James Bond film is Quantum Of Solace. No it doesn't really sound like a proper Bond film title - but to be honest I don't care, so long as the final film is as good as Casino Royale.

That said, can you imagine Shirley Bassey belting out the words "Quantum Of Solace" to the tune of Goldfinger or whatever?

I'm looking forward to the film. It's perhaps a bit of a risk when a lot of your target audience will only know what "of" means in your film's title.

This is true - especially if you consider that they changed the name of Timothy Dalton Bond's "Licence Revoked" to "Licence to Kill" cos they didn't think enough people would know what it meant.

I can only think of Hollis or Wallace - not impossible but tricky to write a song around. Still, it would be better than Madonna's Die Another Day theme, whatever it was - my candidate for worst Bond theme ever.

Anyone have opinions on the best and worst James Bond theme songs?

Think my all-time favourite Bond-theme is "You Only Live Twice" by Nancy Sinatra.

I love "We Have All The Time In The World" by Louis Armstrong too, but don't tend to think of it as a Bond song.

Was there a 'theme song' for Casino Royale (the one with Daniel Craig in, not George Lazenby)? I really can't remember and usually there is some sort of fuss around the song and who performs it.

I agree that rap is under-represented and I was going to attempt a semi-humourous rapping suggestion but then Papa appeared at my side telling me to "get off there" because it is a "men only hard core site"...... [:|]

Yes there was - but it cheated by not singing the title... It was sung by the former lead singer of Soundgarden (whose name I have temporarily forgotten - Chris someone? - Oh I've looked it up now - Chris Cornell) but was called something like You Know My Name (not Remember My Name as that would be Fame).

I remember reading about it before I heard it and they were saying "worst Bond theme ever", in a stereotypical internet way, but I thought it was quite a good one. Not classic but alright.

The theme to the original Casino Royale film is also a classic - an instrumental by Herb Alpert & his Tijuana Brass. Love it.

i heard some of it - but generally the good things i heard aren't as good as the originals as far as i'm concerned. was it the propellorheads that did on her majesty's secret service? to me they just stick some beats and wockachicka guitar on it - it's okay but why mess with perfection? nothing beats john barry's original ohmss.

i was thinking more about songs when i offered my nominations but on her majesty's secret service is possibly the coolest piece of bond music ever.

i also love barry's 007 theme (not to be confused with monty norman's james bond theme)

actually don't get me started on john barry stuff as i'll start rambling on in internet nerd fashion (oh! the theme to the persuaders! and vendetta!) etc ad infinitum.

I think we've almost reached a point where there could be a Rap/Hip Hop Bond theme... I was wondering about who could do it and could imagine people like Jay Z or Kanye West actually being possibilities as they are huge stars and cross-over genres.

Then I remembered that Kanye West has already sampled Diamonds Are Forever. Had completely forgotten. Whether that would endear him to Bond's producers or alienate him from them is another matter.
