Dunno if I can be @rsed with the X-Files any more. The last series killed it for me, which is a pity cos it used to be very enjoyable.

Perhaps I'll get a bit more interested closer to the time... perhaps.

dunno about connolly though

so long as he isn't meant to be irish. did you see him in the last samurai? his accent was godawful. they should have just re-written the part to be a scotsman - it wouldn't have mattered.

i went to see billy connolly perform live last year. i had my reservations cos i hadn't really found him especially funny on tv for a few years but i was hoping that in the flesh and in a sustained un-edited performance he might be funnier.

needless to say i was wrong and, although he was funny, he wasn't hilarious. perhaps my expectations were too high - although i think i'm entitled to them if i'm paying £30 for a ticket. i think it's been a while since he's been as good as he was back in the day of that classic itv audience with billy connolly.

I've always wanted to see him live. The "audience with" was amazing. I just remember crying with laughter for a whole hour. And I really mean that, not like when you read "I cried with laughter" on the front of a book, and reading it, you chuckle twice.

He did those programmes not so long ago where he a travelogue with stand-up clips in. They were enjoyable enough, but the clips from his stand-up seemed to indicate that he wasn't as funny as he was in his prime.

exactly. i had hoped that because of the way they put those things together you weren't getting the proper effect of seeing him perform live - two minutes of stand-up then him walking over sydney harbour bridge or whatever. i thought that those things probably spoiled the momentum of watching a full live performance. i was probably wrong. oh well.

i still won't write him off though cos he's the sort of person you can imagine coming back funnier - like this was just a duff phase and the next one will be better. maybe.

i guess i wanted to cry laughing, like you say, and was disappointed that i only laughed. his old stuff was genuinely hilarious. in the early eighties people would rent things like billy connolly biter yer bum and billy and albert and everyone in the room would have tears streaking down their faces at some point or other. i can't remember the show it was in but do you remember that old seaside town faraway song?

That's an excellent review - nice and short and to the point. You read some reviews and think "Well they may not be fans of the show, so they might just not 'get it' and the film will still be worth seeing."

Clearly in this case it won't.

The whole article was quite informative with regard to things to steer clear of. I now won't be watching Jumper or The Awakened, or AVP: Requiem for example.

I think the worst film I saw at the cinema this year was "The Edge of Love".

That was the one about a bunch of Welsh people cheating on each other during World War II and making each other miserable. You may know it better as being that film about Dylan Thomas with Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller in it.

I went to see it with a friend who really wanted to see it. The first half wasn't too bad but during the second half I just sat there hating it. Miserable.

The thing that surprised me Edge of Love was that it was Keira Knightley's nips that you saw, not Sienna Miller's.

I'm not normally a fan of the Knightly, I think it's the chin. She's like Brucie with eyeliner. However, I've just watched Atonement, and must confess to feeling a bit funny when she climbed out of the fountain...
