Hey ho. I was thinking about getting an HD TV. Does anyone own one already? Are they any good? Are there enough HD programmes on yet? What's normal telly look like on them?

don't you know there's a credit crunch on? where are you getting all the money from? i guess ken's going back to work after maternity leave then.

do you really need an hd tv?

i'd wait until there's more channels available - perhaps the prices will come down then. unless you haven't got anything better to spend your money on. they must use more energy as well - think about the environment - and the money. sky hd costs more doesn't it? why do you need it when you're watching sh*t-quality knock-off dvds/downloads anyway?

and you'll have to replace all your dvds/downloads with hd.

i begrudged paying £300 for a 19" lcd tv - decent hd costs a fortune and just seems an unnecessary luxury to me. plus you know that as soon as you fork-out for one they'll invent some new thing that feeds the signal directly into your brain.

no - i haven't got hd, don't know if it's any good, don't need to find out for several years yet.

sorry if i sound a bit ranty - i don't know why it's come out like that. i think it must be my keyboard.

I know what you're saying. It is a waste of money. My main reason is that when Emily was little, she dropped a penny down the back of our telly and blew it up. Ever since then, I've rented our telly instead of buying one. However, if you add up the rental costs over the years, I could have brought a car with the money I've spent on renting a telly.

So I want to stop renting and actually buy a telly, but you only seem to be able to buy flat screens these days. Ken's not back at work either, so I should probably save my money....

it's a tricky one but if you compare the prices of full-blown hd tv against not-so hd i don't know what the difference in cost is - i suspect it'll be significant. i don't know how different the price is between 1080i and 1080p. loads of tvs now say they are hd-ready, although i guess it's not generally full hd.

tv prices are just mental these days - i still can't get past my old cathode ray tube mentality - back when a portable tv cost less than £100 so i begrudge paying anything more than that.

at least today's tvs are thinner - widescreen crts are about as deep as they are wide.

of course, if you do commit you can guarantee within two years there'll be a wafer thin eco-telly that you'll want instead.

what else could you buy with the money? do you need to see life-size hd porn?

Yes I am. It's a bit crap because the red button thing doesn't work properly on BBC1 HD. On normal BBC1 you can choose to have the Radio 5 live commentary instead of the TV commentary, but that doesn't work on HD. So when Mick McCarthy was commentating the other night, and was doing my head in... there was nothing I could do about it. (Well, except switch off, or change channel)

It was interesting on facebook when that goal happened as it allowed people to subtly point out YES I'VE GOT AN HD TELLY! LOOK AT ME!

I did miss the goal, but I missed the first half hour of the game as I assumed it was an 8 oclock kick-off, not half 7.

I'm becoming a bit too metrosexual for my own liking. The only thing of note I took away from that first game was "Oo, Beckham looks different, has he had some work done?"

I'd be more concerned about the amount of time your spending on facebook if I were you...

In an attempt to get more excited about the World Cup I entered a sweepstake at work.

Hasn't really worked out as I got Cameroon.
