was it any good? the day the earth stood still i mean - or was that just an excuse for the pun? i love the original - to a point where i struggle to see a point in a remake. i'm sure they can do lots of impressive "destruction" but that may not be enough.

It was just an excuse for the pun. [:(] Like you say, I don't think Keanu's gonna better the original, is he? Klatu Barada Nikto. I might watch it once it's on Sky Movies. It's got robots and explosions in after all. But that doesn't make a good film , right Mark?

not 'arf. here's a video review of transformers by mark kermode

i didn't see the original transformers movie at the cinema - i was going to but didn't quite get around to it. i borrowed it on dvd and watched it about a month ago. i don't know why but i was surprised at how weak i felt it was. it was just silly things like: they're hiding under a bridge and megan fox falls off optimus prime (despite the fact that he's massive and it would be easy enough to get a grip) thus putting them all in danger of being caught; they're having a big battle and one of them is damaged/wounded so they tow him out of harm's way - then they tow him back into the battle so that he can shoot people. ? i don't expect it to be intellectually challenging but i would like it to have some kind of internal logic/rationality.

i wondered if i was missing out on some of the experience by watching it at home on telly rather than on the big screen so i did think that i might attempt to see the sequel at the cinema - but everything i've read/heard suggests that it's pretty much the same again. there's part of me that wants to watch vehicles transforming into giant robots on the big screen but that's offset by the part that can't endure another over-lit michael bay slow-mo-fest. some of the younger people that i work with were talking about it and acknowledging that it's mindless. i've concluded that i might finally be too old for this sort of thing...

Lol. I hadn't actually watched his review until just now as I assumed it would be more or less the same as he did on Mayo's show. That's ace!
