Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm me not sure now.

Do you say that in response to my comment, or have you watched the trailer now? I'm still up for it - but the original teaser had me thinking it would be darker and scarier than this now looks.

I have watched the trailer and I am no longer as enthused as I was initially.

I watched Super 8 on Tuesday. I loved it. I don't know what you've seen and read about it but, yeah, it does have some of those Spielberg elements so reminds in part of bits of ET, Close Encounters etc - but also Stand by Me, as well as perhaps some of those Joe Dante films - but then crossed with a modern Abrams sensibility and even a bit of Cloverfield.

That said, it's not all about the kids - it perhaps has a lightness at its heart which wasn't suggested by the first teaser trailer.

A couple of people I know referenced The Goonies but I don't agree. I never saw The Goonies at the cinema and only watched it for the first time on TV a few years ago. I think you had to be a certain age when you first see Goonies to love it like some people do - I wasn't and it didn't do much for me.

If you watch Super 8 as a homage to late seventies/early eighties movies of a certain type then I don't think you'll be disappointed but I think it stands on it's own too. It's not cutesy and the effects are great - and a couple of moments made me jump. I recommend seeing it on the big screen.
